The board approved a technology upgrade package July 21 that includes Phase 2 of a network switch replacement and a three‑year Cisco VoIP license renewal.
Chad Fingal presented a purchase order for network switches from High Point Networks totaling $454,557.04. He said the district expects $386,373.48 to be reimbursed through the federal E‑Rate (Universal Service Fund) program, leaving a district share of $68,183.55 charged to fiscal year 2026 general fund. Directors asked about the overall cost across phases; Fingal said funding letters have been issued and that the vendor will bill USAC; the district's exposure for this item is the local share only.
Director Miller asked how many phases remain and suggested the board be informed up front of total expected multi‑phase costs. During discussion, staff noted the purchase supports the district's Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) compliance, content filtering and security requirements.
In a separate motion the board approved renewal of the district's Cisco VoIP licensing from Heartland Business Systems at $90,691.31 per year for three years.
Votes: Both purchases passed by unanimous voice votes recorded in the minutes.
Ending: Staff said they will provide phase estimates for future approvals and continue to use E‑Rate funding where eligible to offset capital costs.
