The Sioux City board approved a group of preschool initiative agreements and associated rental agreements July 21 to expand access to high‑quality preschool for four‑year‑olds.

The district recommended and the board approved memoranda of understanding and contracts with community partners to deliver preschool services. The agenda item included an MOU attached to the Community Action Agency preschool initiative agreement. Administration said several community agencies would provide sites and services and that rental agreements were needed to enable the program at partner locations.

Board member discussion touched on a separate state grant process (the Continuum of Care Act and subsequent childcare grants) and whether local agencies had received state awards. Staff said some local providers — Building Blocks, Apple Tree and Crittendon Center — had applied for related grants and the district had not yet heard which, if any, would be funded by the state.

Vote and abstention: The board passed the preschool initiative agreements and the rental agreements. One trustee recorded an abstention on at least one of the preschool agenda items; the motions otherwise passed by majority vote.
