Commissioners approve delayed‑egress hardware for secured seventh‑floor door

A request from county IT to install delayed‑egress hardware on a secured seventh‑floor door was approved by the Richland County Board of Commissioners on July 29. Matthew (county IT) told the board the door between the clerk of courts area and Courtroom 3 will be used as an exit and therefore needs a crash bar and delayed egress. "It's gonna have delete delayed egress for 30 seconds because that door is secure," Matthew said, explaining the hardware quote presented to the board covered hardware and listed installation as included in a prior RFP. Commissioners discussed funding; one commissioner said the cost was not currently in the auditor's budget and presumed the purchase would be paid from capital or the Richland reinvestment fund. County IT confirmed that source. A motion to approve the hardware purchase was made, seconded and approved by voice vote. The board recorded the approval and asked staff to ensure the installation aligns with prior RFP work and to remove duplicate installation charges from the current vendor quote where the cabling had previously been run.
