Washington County Historical Commission receives Texas Historical Commission Distinguished Service award

The Washington County Historical Commission received the Texas Historical Commission’s Distinguished Service award for 2024 during the Washington County Commissioners Court meeting on Tuesday.
A presenter read the award citation recognizing the county commission’s “active and well balanced preservation program” and encouraged public acknowledgment of the award. Mister Stevens and members of the county commission came forward to accept the certificate during the meeting.
The commission highlighted outreach efforts — including a Texas youth history camp that served 24 children ages 10–11 in 2025 in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club — and noted sponsors and in-kind supporters including Blue Bell Creameries, Bank of Brenham, Chick-fil-A, H-E-B College Station and others. The historical commission’s 2024 annual report included 193 volunteer hours and a stated monetary valuation for volunteer hours described in the presentation.
Commissioners congratulated the historical commission and thanked volunteers for their work promoting local historic preservation.
