Laurie, a Board of Health staff member, told the Templeton Board of Health on July 28 that the town has begun maintenance work at the landfill and needs to clear a swale affected by brush and beaver damming. "We started we've done a survey over there for we need to clean the swale out," Laurie said, and added that the landfill cap was mowed "in preparation for continued swale maintenance."
Laurie reported the water level behind beaver dams has inundated two test pipes, which must be lowered to reach for inspection and maintenance. The board discussed bringing in a trapper to survey the area and said Department of Public Works and the water department will assist with brush clearing. Laurie said she emailed Crow Hill Motor Park to request permission to access privately owned land that adjoins the landfill to reach some areas.
Because heavy spring rains delayed work, Laurie said she was "fully confident that the maintenance will be completed prior to fall." No formal vote was taken; the board discussed logistics and asked staff to continue coordinating with DPW, the water department and property owners to complete the work.
The discussion covered operational steps and property-access logistics; the board did not approve new spending or adopt formal policy at the July meeting.
