Court approves closure of half of North Capitol Square for Aug. 8 concert

The Young County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a request from the City of Graham to close public park parking on the north side of the Capitol Square beginning 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, through the end of the Hudson Westbrook concert.
City Manager Eric Carrey and Kathy Partridge, introduced as the executive director of the city’s business bureau, told commissioners they expect a large crowd and have coordinated with TxDOT and the Department of Public Safety for pedestrian and traffic safety. Carrey said the city proposed additional street closures and asked that parking inside the square be restricted overnight to reduce vehicular traffic through dense pedestrian areas.
Carrey and Partridge said the city will exclude official and sheriff’s office vehicles from the closure and will post a no-camping rule for the square to discourage attendees from occupying space overnight. The city also plans to provide three food trucks in the plaza and directed people to alternate parking and camping locations to minimize congestion.
Commissioner Wiley moved to approve the closure; Commissioner Shook seconded. The motion passed 5-0.
Officials said they will continue coordination with law enforcement and emergency services and will provide details to the county about vehicle exceptions and staging for official vehicles.
