Scout Hall was struck by lightning in June, and town officials told the Select Board on July 23 that initial cleanup work is finished and the town is awaiting an insurer's scope of work so repairs can go out to bid.
Building and grounds director Bob Sozyk said ServiceMaster "has completed their demoriturizing and water damage" work and that "the asbestos abatement has been done." He said the insurer will prepare a value-of-damage estimate and a scope of work that the town can use to solicit bids.
The Select Board also discussed short-term operating costs for Scout Hall and an emergency response building. According to meeting remarks, the board adjusted local-receipt estimates and found about $10,000 to cover heat and utilities so both buildings could remain open.
Town staff emphasized that the insurance company is determining the repair scope. Sozyk said crews used a bucket truck to inspect the cupola and that he had emailed the insurer for an update but had not received a reply.
Discussion at the meeting also covered insurance costs related to unoccupied buildings and the need to keep utilities on for preservation. No formal contract award for repair work was reported in the recording; officials said the next step is the insurer's scope to support competitive bids.
For now, town officials said short-term funding to preserve the buildings is in place, while the timeline for full repair depends on the insurer's estimate and the subsequent bidding process.
