Portsmouth United funds 40+ summer programs, readies app and expands violence-interruption; $2.9 million state award pending

Shantel Matthews, speaking for Portsmouth United, told the Crime and Gun Violence Prevention Task Force on July 28 that the program funded more than 40 summer initiatives and has several near-term operational changes planned.
Matthews said the task force put out a call for summer programming and funded projects up to $5,000 per program. She described a lawn-care pilot run with Give Back to the Block, Footprint Foundation and the sheriff’s office that provided work and lunch for more than 30 youth and included soft-skills and conflict-management coaching.
