City of Alice staff present balanced proposed FY2026 budget; council schedules workshops

At a special meeting Tuesday, July 29, City of Alice City Council heard a presentation of the proposed fiscal year 2025–26 budget, during which city staff said the plan is balanced and uses conservative revenue estimates for property and sales taxes.

Michael Bridal, identified in the meeting as city staff, delivered the presentation. “On behalf of our city administration and staff, I respectfully submit to you our fiscal year ’26 2026, proposed budget,” Bridal said. He said the budget process began in March and described the proposal as a balanced plan: “It’s a balanced budget. Every fund either having a surplus or being balanced … we’re being conservative with our property tax revenue as well as our sales tax revenue,” Bridal said.

Council members and staff discussed scheduling budget workshops over the next month; speakers referenced dates described as the 5th, the 19th and the 26th and mentioned 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. meeting times. One speaker said the council expects to adopt the budget in September. The council did not take a vote on the budget at the meeting; Bridal said staff looks forward to council feedback during the workshops and subsequent budget meetings.

The only formal action recorded at the meeting was a motion to adjourn, which the council seconded and approved by voice vote.

The presentation covered high-level fiscal posture and scheduling only; no ordinances, appropriations or formal amendments to the proposed budget were made during the session.
