Jackson County staff on July 14 said the county published public notice and that the draft solid-waste management plan is available for public review ahead of a public hearing scheduled for Monday, Aug. 25 at 4:30 p.m. at the courthouse.
Staff said the draft will be available for review at the county office Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., and that the public-notice period meets the requirement to provide a 30- to 45-day comment period before the hearing. The commission plans to vote on final adoption at the regular commission meeting that follows the public hearing.
Staff noted they will monitor for public comments during the review period, do not expect many, and will respond if needed. The presenter said cities within the county largely opted in to the plan except for the City of Stevenson and the City of Scottsboro, which opted out; the county will invoice participating municipalities for their share once the process is complete.
Legal counsel will assist with hearing procedures as needed, staff said.
