The Madison Metropolitan School District Board of Education on July 28 approved its annual declaration of educational standards for the 2025–26 school year, reaffirming the use of WIDA for English language development and the Wisconsin academic standards in subjects including mathematics, history, science and technical subjects.
President Nichols presented the motion to approve the previously adopted standards and the board approved the declaration unanimously, with student representative Claire Lee casting an advisory aye. The declaration named WIDA for English language learners, the Wisconsin standards for English language arts, physical education and personal finance literacy, and identified youth apprenticeship programming and other state-developed standards as the expectations the district will use to guide curriculum and instruction.
The motion affirms that the MMSD curriculum should be historically accurate, inclusive and culturally relevant as the district implements the standards. The board did not amend the standards during the meeting; this action restates previously adopted standards for the coming school year.
