NORFOLK COUNTY, Mass. — The Norfolk County Commissioners voted unanimously June 25 to ratify a memorandum of understanding with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 93, Local 2417, registry unit.
County staff presented the tentative agreement to the commissioners, saying it followed “months and months of negotiations.” The commissioners then moved, seconded and took a roll-call vote to ratify the agreement and to authorize the county director to sign the MOU on the commissioners’ behalf.
The vote followed an executive session held under the authority cited on the record as “master law chapter 38, section 21 a 3” to discuss strategy related to bargaining or litigation. The commissioners did not disclose details of the closed session in the public record.
Commissioner Stade cast a recorded “yes” vote, Commissioner Collins voted “yes,” and Commissioner Shea voted “yes,” completing the unanimous ratification.
The MOU was described in open session as an agreement between the Norfolk County Commissioners and AFSCME Council 93, Local 2417, Registry Unit. County staff requested authorization for the county director to sign the memorandum on the commissioners’ behalf.
The commissioners offered congratulations to the registry unit and to the negotiating teams after the vote. No monetary figures or contract-term specifics were announced during the public discussion.
The commissioners recessed the meeting after completing the ratification and other business; the next regular meeting was scheduled for July 9.
