Warren County Fiscal Court approves consolidation of nine volunteer fire departments under county control

Warren County Fiscal Court on July 24 approved memoranda of understanding and authorized the Judge Executive to begin consolidating nine volunteer fire departments into a single Warren County Fire Department, a move county leaders and presenters said was recommended by the Kentucky Fire Commission and intended to centralize administrative and operational oversight.

The court also approved authority to advertise for bids for a used aerial combination pumper. Officials described minimum bid specifications to be included in the request for qualifications: at least a 400‑gallon tank, a 75‑foot attached aerial and a pump capacity of 1,500 gallons per minute; bid specifications will add limits on acceptable vehicle age, engine hours and mileage. Motion to advertise those bids was made by Esquire McWhorter and seconded by Esquire Aldridge; the motion passed on recorded affirmative votes.

County remarks included a timeline detail: Monday, Aug. 4, will be "our first day" with paid firefighters reported to be placed at some stations under the new arrangement. Later in the meeting, county staff said they are pursuing fiscally responsible options for NFPA‑compliant used apparatus that can be placed into service more quickly than new purchases, and that they expect to identify suitable vehicles or multiple units through the advertised procurement process.
