Godley ISD approves MOU with Alvarado ISD for CDL training and testing

Godley ISD trustees unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Alvarado ISD to provide commercial driver's license (CDL) training and third‑party skills testing for district applicants and employees. The administration recommended the partnership to speed hiring and testing for bus drivers and other employees who require CDLs.

In presenting the MOU, Mr. Carnes said Alvarado is certified by the state as a third‑party skills testing provider and that the district previously used Region 11 with mixed results. The administration highlighted benefits including a reported average 3–6 week turnaround, broader access for staff such as coaches and maintenance workers, and “budget friendly” transparent pricing to help department planning.

Trustees asked whether other local districts offer in‑house testing. Carnes replied some larger districts do perform testing in‑house and that trainers previously used in other districts, such as Cleburne, are now based at Alvarado. He also noted Alvarado’s testing locations are sometimes scheduled in multiple places but that the expected benefit is faster access than Region 11.

Trustee Krista moved to approve the MOU for CDL training and testing as presented; Trustee Jeff seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

The administration said the MOU is intended to help Godley ISD train and certify drivers more efficiently so staff can be on the road sooner. No contract dollar amounts were included in the board discussion, and trustees did not specify implementation dates beyond standard administrative coordination.
