Board recognizes esports club and opens student activity account for West ambassadors; esports MOU approved

The Boyertown Area School District board voted July 20 to approve a memorandum of understanding recognizing the district esports club as a school activity and to open a student activity account for the Boyertown Area High School West Bear Ambassadors.

The esports MOU had been discussed earlier in a committee meeting; the administration said the MOU formalizes the club's status as a recognized extracurricular under the district's collective-bargaining agreement and documents responsibilities. The Bear Ambassadors account will allow the West school group to hold funds for fundraising and event activities; administration provided a completed form required to open the account.

The nut graf: The board approved both motions. On the esports MOU vote, one board member — Miss Dierolf — voted no; the remaining members voted yes. The student-activity account motion passed unanimously. Administration noted MOU language had been drafted with the solicitor's office and included customary terms for student clubs.

Both approvals were procedural and administrative: the esports club will operate under the MOU and the school will be able to manage a student-activity account for ambassador activities and related fundraising.
