The Board of Mayor and Aldermen voted 6-0 Monday to adopt five zoning-map amendments on second and final readings that reclassify parcels along Big Springs Avenue, South Jackson Street, Volney Street and David Allen Drive. The measures moved parcels at 217–219 and 400–414 Big Springs Avenue from Restricted Industrial and Warehousing (I-1) to General Commercial (C-2); reclassified 501 South Jackson Street and 105 West Volney Street from General Commercial (C-2) to Central Commercial (C-1); and changed 113–115 David Allen Drive from Agricultural (AG) to Low-Density Residential (R-1). The rezoning proposals were discussed at previous meetings and returned to the board for second-and-final reading as required by city ordinance. The board took individual votes on each ordinance; each item passed 6-0 with one member noted absent. No public comments or substantive new objections were entered at Monday’s meeting. City staff said the actions update the official zoning map and replace the prior designations for the specified parcels. The board did not attach additional conditions or amendments during the votes. The ordinances were recorded as Ordinance Nos. 16-53, 16-54, 16-55 and 16-56 in the meeting packet. The approvals complete the city’s unfinished-business section on zoning for this meeting; the mayor then moved the agenda to new business.
