District reports near-complete HVAC, electrical work at Cody Wardlaw gym; Lamar cafeteria equipment arriving Aug. 4

San Felipe del Rio CISD facilities staff reported progress July 28 on multiple summer construction and repair projects, including near-complete HVAC and electrical work at Cody Wardlaw gym, fence installation at South (San) Felipe Memorial Middle School and chiller repairs at Del Rio High School.
Hector Chalka summarized the work and timelines. "Currently, Cody Wardlaw, we proceeded, the major items that are still pending, HVAC and electrical. They're both approximately 95% complete," he said. Chalka told the board that "the 3 big units, 25 tons each came online this afternoon and the gym is feels a lot different now." He added permanent electrical power was established the same day and that remaining HVAC work includes installing two 2.5-ton units for the front of the building and locker rooms; the contractor plans to delay exterior condenser installation until landscaping is finished.
Chalka said windows and doors are complete except for spandrel (obscured) glass at the front elevation and that the flooring company is scheduled to start finishing the gym floor on Monday, Aug. 4, with an estimated three to four days to complete that work. Regarding fencing, he said the district has installed the fence around San Felipe Memorial Middle School and that gates are being fabricated with a planned installation the following Wednesday.
On districtwide HVAC repairs, Chalka reported the previously problematic chiller No. 2 at the high school has been repaired and both chillers are operational. He also said HVAC work at Calderon Elementary and Cardwell Elementary through earlier funding has been completed. For Lamar, he said cafeteria and gym equipment shipments are scheduled to arrive Aug. 4 and contractors expect to finish installation the same week; as a contingency contractors will install a surplus unit to ensure at least one cafeteria unit is operational if needed.
Chalka also presented maintenance, technology and transportation work-order statistics for April through June and the preceding 90 days; technology showed a 97% completion rate for the previous 90 days, and maintenance reported 990 work orders with an 83% completion rate for the April'025 period. Board members asked about whether planned summer work would affect student orientation; Chalka said principals would schedule smaller orientation groups if the cafeteria or gym are not fully cooled when orientations occur.
No formal board action was required for the update.
