Shannon Tealy, director of workforce development for the AIMS Regional Economic Alliance, presented the alliance’s quarter‑two report to the Story County Board of Supervisors on July 29. Tealy summarized retraining, talent-attraction and young‑professional programming and said the alliance is focusing on connecting new hires and students to community supports as well as on strengthening K–12 business partnerships.
Key items: the alliance’s retraining program in Q2 enrolled six participants—primarily in CDL and CNA certificates. Tealy said the program remains available through DMACC and that the low enrollment likely reflects participant choice rather than program removal. The alliance’s newly launched “Live in AIMS / Play in AIMS” campaign, launched in May, registered strong online views (Tealy cited roughly 57,000 Facebook views) and produced at least two direct placement success stories.
Tealy also described expanded outreach to college students through Area Interns events (90 attendees at one session, compared with 13 college students at a comparable event last year), a Rising Leaders Academy cohort for high‑school students, and business‑focused K–12 programs that brought teachers and counselors to employer sites. Area Young Professionals membership rose to 182 and a new mentorship pilot placed 15 mentees with business leaders.
Board members questioned the retraining enrollment and asked for quarterly historical enrollment data; they also asked for more targeted outreach because individuals who need retraining may not find a website listing. Tealy said the alliance markets through DMACC and plans to increase outreach through school counselors and social media.
There was no board action associated with the presentation.
