BROCKTON, Mass. — The Brockton City Council on July 28 confirmed a series of appointments and reappointments to city boards, departments and authorities, including the confirmation of Daniel J. Reedy as a fire alarm operator in the Brockton Fire Department and Jamie Hodges to the Brockton Redevelopment Authority.
Reedy, who the fire chief described as having prior experience as a dispatcher at Northeastern University, was confirmed by roll-call vote. Chief Nardelli told the council: "This has been a vacant position that it just took a little while to get through civil civil service to get the background investigations done, and we are running short in that department. So to be able to get him started right away is is greatly appreciated." The council recorded the appointment as confirmed.
The council also confirmed Jamie Hodges to the Brockton Redevelopment Authority. Hodges spoke to the council at the meeting, saying she had served as an alternate on the Zoning Board of Appeals for the past four years and that she sees redevelopment work as "creating pathways for families, supporting small businesses, and making sure that every decision made reflects the needs and values of people, who live in the city of Brockton." Several councilors spoke in support of Hodges before the roll-call confirmation.
Other confirmations and reappointments acted on July 28 included: the reappointment of Kenneth Galligan to the Zoning Board of Appeals (the council took the item up under suspension of the rules and later confirmed the appointment by roll call), reappointments to the Council on Aging board, the Cultural Council, the Conservation Committee, and the Brockton Retirement Board, among others. Multiple appointments were confirmed by recorded roll-call votes; the clerk’s roll calls recorded the confirmations as adopted.
Several council motions for reconsideration were made following appointments; the council voted on the motions for reconsideration and those reconsideration motions failed, leaving the original confirmations in place.
The confirmations concluded a lengthy appointments section of the agenda; the council thanked volunteers and appointees for their service.
