Superintendent Manuel Mendez told the Farmersville Unified School District board on July 15 that administrative teams, new teachers and maintenance staff are actively preparing campuses to welcome approximately 2,400 students when classes resume. "...some teachers and staff, specifically new teachers and staff, are working this week. And, actively collaborated to clarify our academic vision and define district wide learning goals as we get ready to welcome close to 2,400 students back," Mendez said. Board members raised questions about summer construction and roadwork near the junior high and whether it would be finished before school begins. A district representative said the goal is to complete the work before the first day of school but cautioned that schedules can change. Mendez credited Tony Sanchez and his maintenance and operations team with scheduling deep cleaning and coordinating site readiness around construction and summer programs. The superintendent invited the board to a welcome-back staff breakfast at Farmersville High School the Monday before the start of school and reiterated the district's efforts to ensure campuses are clean, safe and prepared for sports and other activities. No formal actions about construction scheduling or contractors were recorded; trustees asked for updates and expressed support for staff preparing campuses.
