Barrow County Schools voted Tuesday to approve a memorandum of understanding with Foothills Charter Regional High School outlining facility usage, student programming and a revised technology reimbursement addendum.
Why it matters: the agreement clarifies how Foothills will use two Barrow sites (Sims and Russell), how students are served and how Foothills will reimburse the district for facility use and tech support now that certain technicians will no longer be Foothills employees.
Mister Sinclair, a district presenter, told the board the agreement covers two sites (Sims and Russell), both identified as tier 3 based on prior enrollment, and that Foothills will reimburse the district $150,000 per site for facility usage, for a total of $300,000. The presenter added the district expects $10,000 per site for tech support reimbursement, bringing the total anticipated receipt to $320,000 under the new arrangement.
The MOU sets procedures for students who remain on Barrow County enrollment but attend Foothills for self‑paced and evening courses. The addendum shifts how evening technical support will be handled: Foothills will reimburse the district, and Barrow will pay its staff to provide coverage during Foothills hours rather than Foothills directly employing technicians.
Board members moved to approve the MOU in open session; the motion passed.
No immediate cost to the district was presented as a result of the MOU; the agreement is intended to clarify operations before Foothills begins its fall classes.
