Superintendent updates board on summer construction projects, auditors and staffing

Superintendent Dr. Rainey updated the Whitnall School District Board on summer facilities work, the district audit and preparations for the school year. He said contractors were scheduled to begin track work pending weather, tennis court lights crews were working, concrete for the softball field should be finished this week, and goalposts were painted as part of ongoing field improvements. Dr. Rainey said auditors were on site this week and expected to finish by the end of the following day, and he described that as an indicator of well‑kept district records. He also reviewed administrative retreat plans and teacher‑evaluation work scheduled for the week, and said staff will volunteer at the Weir Nature Center as a team building activity. On staffing, Dr. Rainey said the district is feeling “pretty good” about hiring but acknowledged nerves increase as the school year approaches; new staff report dates were set for Aug. 18–19 and all staff return in August. He also said the district’s publication “the window” is heading to the printer and will be mailed soon. Board members asked whether the new track color would match the field; Dr. Rainey said the track will be a similar red and explained cost and resurfacing considerations. The board voted to accept the superintendent’s report by voice vote.
