Commissioners said the event yielded community engagement with city departments (parks and recreation, senior services) and local nonprofits; city officials attended throughout the event. The church’s community engagement committee said the celebration aimed to show residents the church’s ongoing social-service work — including a food pantry, regular programs, and planned initiatives such as health screening events and a financial-literacy academy focused on homeownership.
Organizers also announced fall civic-engagement activities: a voter-registration drive during September and October and a nonpartisan candidate forum scheduled for Oct. 18. The church is a 501(c)(3) organization and said it will host the candidate forum as a meet-and-greet and public Q&A; organizers emphasized that the forum will be nonpartisan and non-endorsing.
Commissioners described the block party as a successful community outreach effort that introduced many neighbors to church programs they may not have known existed.
