Board approves revisions to policies on public input, ethics, student assignment and student progression

The policies approved with final votes were: - BEDH — Public input at school board meetings (agenda item 3.01): board members said earlier work sessions and public notice took place prior to final action. - KCE — Ethics and lobbying (3.02): staff told the board the revisions align policy language with state statutes. - JCA — Assignment of students to school (3.03): board members praised changes that expand choice and sibling transfer language to help families stay together. - IA — Student progression plan (3.04): staff noted annual statutory updates and board members commended the user‑friendly formatting.

Votes and process Each policy was introduced by Superintendent Maria Vasquez and voted on following brief acknowledgment that required notifications and workshops had occurred. Motions originated from board members and were seconded; each passed on a voice vote with recorded “aye” responses from the full board.

Why it matters: The policy updates address procedural and compliance issues that affect families and district operations, including how the public engages in board meetings, how the district aligns lobbying and ethics rules with state law, and how student assignment and progression are handled.
