Smyrna previews park, pool and road projects: new splash pad, Tolleson Pool replacement and Windy Hill Road nearing completion

Mayor Derek Norton used the City of Smyrna podcast to update residents on several parks and infrastructure projects, saying most are progressing on schedule and several will be completed within months or years depending on the project.

Norton said a new restroom, a redesigned splash pad and a small children's playground near the library are expected to be finished next month. "It is 1 full, with, splash pad with jets on both sides. We'll have the bathroom right next to it and then a little kid's playground to complement the big kid's playground," Norton said.

He also reported that construction framing is up at the Still Fire building in downtown and that interior work is starting, with an expected completion in early next year though he cautioned that an exact date was not provided. Norton said the Ward 7 splash pad at Riverline Park is underway and expected to be completed toward the end of the year.

On transportation infrastructure, Norton said Windy Hill Road is "finally substantially complete" and will be turned over to the city after remaining punch-list items are finished.

On Tolleson Pool, Norton said the city is on track to replace the aging facility with a new complex that will include a competition pool, a lazy river, recreational pool area, a small kids' swim area and a slide. He cited safety as the reason for replacement, saying the old pool was "so old and literally crumbling." He stated the replacement has an anticipated opening on Memorial Day weekend 2027.
