Treasurer warns of lower revenue projections; district reports $30,000-plus virtual-card rebate

During the July 2025 Southern Waters Education meeting, the treasurer briefed the board on the district’s financial outlook, warning that higher property appraised values in Lucas County could reduce revenue estimates and that several base costs are increasing. The treasurer said the district will provide a fuller year-end presentation next month. Officials also reported a sizable rebate from using virtual credit cards to pay bills: more than $30,000 this year versus roughly $2,400 in the previous year. The treasurer called the change “a significant increase” tied to the district's payment practices. The treasurer recommended approval of routine consent items including the treasurer’s report and an annual audit services agreement (gap conversion and statement-prep services) and moved those items on a consent-agenda basis; trustees approved the consent items during the meeting. The treasurer said staff have already begun audit work for the prior school year. The treasurer said exact collections are unknown and will become clearer in coming months; she promised a month-ahead Canva presentation to summarize the full fiscal year, trends and the expected budget impact as new appraisal and collection figures arrive.
