The Putnam County Commission on July 29 voted to administratively close 10 fiduciary or estate cases that county staff said had seen no appraisement filings, little activity and no response to outreach. A fiduciary office representative identified the cases by name and said several were opened in February 2013. Staff said they mailed show-cause orders and reports to administrators, heirs and creditors on April 30 and June 10, 2025, and later advertised the pending administrative‑closure hearing. No interested parties appeared at the hearing. The fiduciary officer recommended an order to administratively close the estates; a motion to authorize the president to sign the order passed by voice vote. Staff stated that if anyone later wishes to revive a case or be appointed administrator, the fiduciary office can reopen and reappoint the matter. Why it matters: administrative closure moves dormant cases off the court/office docket and allows staff to focus on active matters while preserving a process to reopen a case if parties come forward. The motion authorized administrative closure; no claims were resolved at the meeting and staff noted only one estate had outstanding claims.
