Board approves Sycamore block closure for Aug. 9 garage sale, MADD walk in September and intermittent sidewalk/parking closures for Eichmann building work

The Lebanon Board of Public Works and Safety approved three separate closure requests during its meeting.
Sycamore Street: Kevin Krolick presented a resident-requested street closure for Sycamore Street between South Meridian and Southeast Street for a community garage sale on Saturday, Aug. 9. Krolick said the closure was requested from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. He said approximately five homes on the block would be directly involved. A board member moved to approve the closure; the motion carried on a second and voice vote.
Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Central Indiana fundraiser: Denise Nibleck, representing MADD of Indiana, requested a rolling single-lane closure on East Street between Eulen and Fordyce on Saturday, Sept. 20. The event will start with sign-making and registration at 9 a.m., a walk leaving the memorial shelter at 10 a.m. and is expected to conclude by noon. Nibleck said participants will walk along the Linear Park bike path while first responders and partners stage vehicles in the lane; the group asked for the west-side lane to be available so partners can pull in if needed. The board approved the closure on a motion, second and voice vote.
Eichmann Building (Eichmann Exchange) construction: Krolick described the project at 124 and 126 North Lebanon Street (the Eichmann Building) and requested intermittent sidewalk and parking-space closures on the south side of Washington Street adjacent to the building and a space on the west side of State Road 39 for staging dumpsters, scaffolding and lifts. Krolick said the city would like the ability to intermittently close those spaces as needed through the project’s construction schedule, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. He asked that the building owner and contractor coordinate each closure with the Department of Public Works and engineering staff. The Board approved the intermittent closures by motion and second.
Each of the three requests was approved by voice vote with board members answering “aye.” The approvals require coordination with city staff for barricades, scheduling and signage; Krolick noted that contractors must coordinate closure timing with DPW and engineering so that temporary closures do not occur without proper notification and safeguards.
