Don and rodeo committee members said the county will seek a grant for the rodeo arena in the next WSDA cycle and plan to present the project to the Board of County Commissioners at an August 4 work session.
Joe Marceau, a rodeo committee member, described arena needs the committee hopes to fund: additional lighting, an arena groomer and equipment to handle livestock. “What our goal is to do is to get in front of the commissioners on August 4 and present ... improvements that we're bucking for, lights, a lot of new rodeo equipment,” Marceau said.
At the same time, several board members urged that the outside campground receive attention. One member recommended seeking other grant sources or moving the outside-campground power and water engineering into the fairgrounds’ five‑year plan. They described a ditch and utility corridor along the north fence that could support 12–15 new electrical/water hookups but flagged the potential need for a second transformer as the major cost unknown.
Don said the campground improvements are already included in the five‑year plan as architectural and engineering work to investigate power and water needs; he warned that tree removal along the north fence will be politically sensitive and requires city cooperation. “It's in the 5 year plan to investigate for power and water engineering,” he said, adding the city must be amenable to tree changes.
Board members agreed to continue developing the WSDA rodeo application and to explore other funding sources for campground infrastructure; no formal vote was recorded.
