Commissioners award county VoIP phone contract to Eastex Telephone

Polk County Commissioners selected Eastex Telephone to supply the county’s new voice-over-Internet (VoIP) phone system after staff compiled interview questions and written follow-ups from four finalists and solicited scoring committee input.
Staff said four companies rose to the top of the procurement process and that Vested Networks and Eastex Telephone received the strongest feedback. Commissioners discussed local vendor benefits and competitive quality. Commissioner Robertson moved and Commissioner Cassidy seconded the award; the court approved the contract by voice vote, with Commissioner Dubose recorded as opposing. Commissioner Purvis was not present.
The county had previously provided interview questions to the bidders and included the written responses in the meeting packet for commissioner review. Staff said information from other departments that will be impacted by a countywide VoIP system was solicited and incorporated into the evaluation. The contract award moves procurement into the implementation phase; staff did not provide a contract amount in the public discussion portion of the meeting.
