The Greenland Conservation Commission reported progress on the Thompson Brook cleanup and said crews removed refrigerators and larger debris, with one more pass planned for later in the year.
Commissioners said some remaining trash is in mushy, hard-to-reach areas and that they will schedule another cleanup day, likely in November or December, after vegetation dies back and access improves. The commission said volunteers had posted photos of the cleanup on the commission—s Facebook page and that they will do additional mapping of remaining debris.
Separately, the commission reviewed its photo contest and outreach plans. Commissioners said 15 photo submissions had been received and that the deadline for entries is the 29th of the month. The commission plans to present photo-contest winners at the town—s National Night Out event on Aug. 5 and to coordinate with the Police Department, the Fire Department and the Greenland Women—s Club for the event.
Commissioners discussed using a pop-up tent and small giveaways (ice cream cups) to attract families at the National Night Out gathering. They asked that social posts be "bumped" on the town Facebook page to increase contest participation and asked staff to repost contest information.
