The Greenland Board of Selectmen discussed June 30 a town-owned parcel behind the transfer station that borders Prospect Hill and Bramber Estates and agreed to schedule a site walk to evaluate potential uses. Selectmen, town staff and trustees discussed topography, visibility and possible grading and screening.
The item matters because the parcel contains limited flat area and slopes toward Bramber Estates and the transfer station; the board wants first-hand observation to determine whether portions could be repurposed for town facilities, overflow parking, or buffered by low-line scrub and fencing.
Town representatives described the property as sloping from the transfer station toward Bramber Estates, with only a limited flat section near the transfer-station edge. Trustees invited the selectmen to walk the site via Prospect Hill access and noted preliminary ideas including grading and perimeter fencing or screening to obscure views of the transfer station. Staff cautioned that some rear areas slope significantly, limiting usable acreage. The facilities team will consider the property in conjunction with wider facilities planning scheduled for September; board members said they did not want to pre-commit funds without further study.
The board directed staff to schedule the walk-through and to coordinate with cemetery trustees and facilities staff so selectmen can see the topography and return with recommendations. There was no vote to reassign land or to authorize expenditures at the meeting.
