The Public Works and Building Committee on July 17 voted to forward the Recreation and Marine Advisory Commission’s recommendation to name the new public park at 5 Cachico Avenue “Nancy Loud Park” to the full City Council.

Peter (city staff) explained that the Recreation and Marine Advisory Commission made the recommendation and that city procedure assigns naming recommendations for parks to the Recreation Advisory Commission and the City Council has final authority under the public facilities naming policy. The agenda-setting committee requested the item be reviewed by the Public Works subcommittee before going to full council.

A committee member moved to accept the advisory commission’s recommendation and to forward it to full council. The motion carried by voice vote; one member expressed “heartburn with a living person” being used as the name, but the committee voted to forward the recommendation nonetheless. Staff confirmed the matter will go to the next full council meeting for final action.

Ending: The committee’s vote was to recommend council approval; no change to city naming policy or formal adoption occurred at the subcommittee level.
