Committee keeps Shady Hill Road 'no through street' request in committee for more input

The Public Safety Committee on May 21 voted to keep in committee a request to add a "no through street" sign on Shady Hill Road, near Pickering Road, after members said more resident feedback was needed.
The item was originally requested by a resident who reported an increase in cars entering the short cul-de-sac and leaving at higher speeds; the committee received a letter from Jane Nelson describing the issue. "I have noted an increase of cars going down and back. I suspect they think the street cuts through like England Road," Nelson wrote (letter read into the record).
Public Works staff said the sign would be informational only and would not affect Department of Public Works operations. Deputy Chief Swanberg told the committee the Police Department would not enforce a ‘‘no through street’’ designation; "it's not something that the PD would enforce," he said.
Committee members said they wanted more resident input before directing Public Works to install a sign. One councilor moved to keep the item in committee for another month to see whether complaints persist; that motion carried.
