The Committee on Legislation on July 15 approved a special-use permit to allow a building at 304–50 Wyoming to be used again as a primary and secondary school and community center, according to the applicant and committee record.
Applicant Kobir Chaudhry said, "We are proposing this building, back to be used as a school as it was bridal used." Councilwoman Everhart, speaking in support, said the applicant had been "amazing community partners, very communicative," and praised the outreach to neighbors and local block leaders. Everhart added she was "really excited to see this building come back online" and recommended approval.
The committee opened and closed the public hearing and then moved to approve the special-use permit; the motion to approve was seconded by Council Member Rivera and recorded in the committee minutes as approved.
Everhart said the building historically had served as a school and community center and that reactivating it would help address local blight; she noted the applicant plans to offer community services in the building.
The committee approved the permit at the meeting and forwarded the approval to the council for any subsequent steps required by city code.
