The Poughkeepsie Planning Board on July 21 approved a six‑family residential project at 2426 Parker Avenue, subject to two conditions: satisfaction of all city department comments and a meeting between the applicant and the city's architectural consultant to enhance the street‑facing façade per the consultant’s July 15 letter.
Joe Ciardi, representing Parker CPK, described engineering measures to keep stormwater on site, including catch basins, pretreatment, and dry wells, and said his team has preliminary stormwater calculations underway. "We have our engineer do preliminary calculations in terms of managing the stormwater," he told the board.
Board members raised design compatibility concerns for the Parker Avenue streetscape, focusing on porches, window trim and material palette that would help the new building better align with neighboring houses. The applicant agreed to meet with the city's design consultant to make relatively modest enhancements intended to improve compatibility without imposing large cost increases.
The board's resolution grants site plan approval with the conditions that all city department comments be addressed and that the applicant meet with the city's architectural consultant to refine the street‑facing façade in accordance with the consultant’s July 15 letter. The motion carried by voice vote.
Why it matters: The project adds six rental units to a residential block. The board used a condition — a short design workshop with the city consultant — as a way to balance design guidance and a timely approval process.
