Fire Chief Bittner gave a monthly operations update, saying the department is fully staffed at the time of the meeting but that the city is still recruiting part‑time firefighter‑EMTs and part‑time paramedics.
Bittner reported a busy summer that included staffing for Fourth of July fireworks and participation at the county fair and back‑to‑school events; he said the fireworks and fair deployments “went off without a hitch” and produced no injuries. He noted district‑level meetings with neighboring departments and said Tipton faces many of the same staffing challenges as larger departments.
On training, Bittner said Jake Adams, Jordan Crane, Garrett White and Ryan Spear completed Fire Officer I coursework; he described the training as appropriate for personnel moving into leadership roles. On grants, he said the department is preparing to apply for the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (FEMA) when it opens in the fall. He also noted the department has some grant‑related invoices to finalize and that firefighter wages are projected to be in the red by year‑end absent transfers or adjustments.
Bittner asked for no council requests at this time and closed his report; board members had no formal votes related to the fire report at the meeting.
