“In the fourth quarter, 7 schools were inspected or reinspected by the office of safe schools. This represents 9.33% of the schools inspected or reinspected,” Captain Todd Smith said during his report. He added that six schools had no safety requirement deficiencies and that the single deficiency identified was a closed and locked door that did not latch; maintenance repaired the latch.
Smith tied the presentation to district policy and to the statutory reporting requirement, saying the audits show a culture of attention to building safety and compliance with Policy 5.11 (Safety of Facilities) and the state reporting expectations under House Bill 1473. The director said principals and staff are taking audits seriously and working with maintenance to resolve equipment malfunctions.
