Police report: targeted operations yield arrests in Seagrave and Beville corridors; department will continue enforcement

Daytona Beach Police presented results of targeted enforcement operations at the commission meeting on May 21, citing recent activity in two problem corridors and promising continued patrols.

Police Chief Jakari Young summarized two recent enforcement efforts focused on the 700 block of North Seagrave and on the Beville/Clyde Morris retail corridor (including the Publix plaza). The department said the Seagrave operation produced six felony arrests during an early operation and a subsequent May 15 enforcement period that yielded seven arrests, including felony arrests for prior convictions and drug‑possession offenses.

Chief Young said the Beville/Clyde Morris area — locations called out by residents include Dollar Tree, Walgreens and the Publix shopping center — also produced arrests and enforcement contacts. "So far, we have a total of 4 felony arrests… [and] 4 misdemeanor arrests. We issued 8 citations and 15 pedestrian stops," the chief reported. He said those arrests included possession of controlled substances and recovery of stolen identification from transient camps in the area.

The chief cautioned that one‑time operations do not solve persistent problems; he said the department will continue targeted enforcement and community outreach. The department also noted it would revisit a previously held community meeting near Fremont Avenue: a second follow‑up meeting is scheduled for May 27 with the same community to report progress and next steps.
