First Step shelter reports housing milestones; commission hears program metrics

At the podium, a representative said First Step housed 31 people in the last month and has provided approximately 363,000 meals since December 2019. The speaker said 1,933 people had been sheltered since opening, and 971 people have moved into full-time housing; of those housed at least two years ago, staff said 93% remain housed. The speaker and the mayor described the program as a community initiative that required ongoing financial support and noted the metrics as evidence of program success. The commission did not vote on new funding during the report. What it does not do: the presentation was an informational report; no new budget action was taken June 4.
