Board members and administrators reviewed proposed updates to the board's governance protocols that clarify communication expectations between individual board members and the superintendent and outline how members should direct constituents through the district chain of command. The board will consider adopting the revised protocols at its August meeting. A staff presenter said the updates aim to set a clear “communication rhythm and cadence” between each board member and the superintendent and to document that when staff share a board inquiry they will note it was asked by a board member without naming which member. The presenter also asked members to notify administration when a constituent is redirected through the chain of command so administration can gauge whether an issue is isolated or recurring. Board member Kara Caston and staff will continue final edits and return the protocols as an action item in August. The item was a first reading; no vote was taken.
