Planning Commission recommends Farragut adopt updated multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan

The Farragut Planning Commission voted to recommend the Board of Mayor and Aldermen adopt the updated Knox County, City of Knoxville and Town of Farragut multi-jurisdictional local hazard mitigation plan. Staff explained the plan is an update to the 2018 plan, has been reviewed by Tennessee Emergency Management Agency and approved by FEMA pending local adoption, and is required if local governments wish to remain eligible for FEMA hazard-mitigation grant programs.

Staff described the plan as a stakeholder-driven update that ranks local natural hazards (flooding, windstorms, blizzards, etc.) and identifies mitigation strategies intended to reduce long-term risk to people and property. The planning process included local jurisdictions, utilities and other stakeholders. Bart said the plan must be adopted by each jurisdiction individually; once adopted locally, the town remains eligible to apply for hazard-mitigation funding tied to the plan.

The planning commission moved, seconded and approved the resolution recommending local adoption and forwarding the plan to the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. There was no public comment at the hearing.
