The Farragut Planning Commission approved three separate right-of-way projects: a Comcast fiber extension to serve 11507 Kingston Pike, a Charter (Spectrum) fiber extension to serve The Grove at Boyd Station subdivision, and a Knoxville Utilities Board (KUB) gas main extension to serve 12960 Alan Kirby Road. Approval by the commission was subject to the usual condition that each project obtain a town right-of-way permit through the engineering department.
Staff described the Comcast project as an approximately 1,900-linear-foot extension of half-inch fiber optic cable beginning near the Kingston Pike/North Campbell Station Road intersection, running along North Campbell Station Road and Jamestown Boulevard to the Village Green Shopping Center frontage at 11507 Kingston Pike. The installer was listed as Soarscribe Broadband (a contractor under a letter-of-credit arrangement), and staff said the town requires a letter of credit (staff cited a $30,000 example) to ensure proper restoration of disturbed areas.
The Charter project was described as roughly 2,200 linear feet of fiber along Boyd Station Road and McPhee Road to the entrance of The Grove at Boyd Station subdivision, to be installed by MosTech. Staff recommended approval subject to obtaining a right-of-way permit.
The KUB project is an approximate 2,400-linear-foot extension of a 4-inch gas main along the north side of Alan Kirby Road with a 2-inch bore under Alan Kirby Road to serve 12960 Alan Kirby Road. Staff noted KUB must coordinate with Colonial Pipeline because the work is immediately adjacent to Colonial Pipeline's 30-foot easement; the commission approved the project subject to the right-of-way permit condition.
All three items were moved, seconded and approved with no public opposition recorded during the hearings. Staff said permit conditions, restoration bonds/letters of credit and coordination with utilities would be required during the permit stage.
