Residents used the public-comment period at the July 29 Board of Selectmen meeting to report recent community activities and upcoming events, including a seniors'oriented hot-dog gathering, the grand opening of a collaborative food stand, and a schedule of concerts and fundraisers.
Why it matters: Public comments highlighted volunteer-driven community energy and local groups offering programming for seniors and broader residents, and the board acknowledged organizers and encouraged continued volunteer participation.
A public commenter said a free hot-dog event on July 14 served more than 40 seniors, with donations of food and volunteer time and hosting support from a congregational church. The commenter described singing, dancing and side dishes provided by residents and said the event was well received and might be repeated.
The same commenter said a collaborative food stand had its informal grand opening that day, built and donated by local volunteers and donors; the stand will offer vegetables and (eventually) snacks and ice cream and includes a donation bin for nonperishables to support a collaborative pantry.
Parks and Recreation and other residents announced several upcoming community events: a town takeover night at a Wood Sox baseball game (with a ticket link that routes $5 to Parks and Rec), the final scheduled "Concert on the Common" on Aug. 30, a Tequila Mockingbird performance on Sept. 6 and an annual Hearts playground fundraiser on Sept. 13. Organizers encouraged attendance and said recent events had strong turnout.
The board and residents also discussed leadership for a volunteer town decorating committee and other routine community items during the public-comment period. No formal board actions were taken on these announcements; comments were informational and laudatory of volunteers.
