Council presentations recognized private support for the Morehead Farmers Market and organizers of community safety and outreach events.
Steve French, the city—s special events specialist, thanked Choice Bank for a $10,000 sponsorship that supports farmers-market food-access programs including SNAP matching, market/produce bucks and the Power of Produce club for children.
Council members praised the farmers market—s growth and said it helps address food insecurity. Council member Batson added that market vendors sell a variety of vegetables, herbs, bread, preserves and other goods and encouraged residents to attend; the regular market runs Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and a global market event was scheduled to run 5—7 p.m. the following day.
Mayor Carlson and others also thanked staff and volunteers for the city—s Safe City events, which Sgt. Scott Kasarich coordinated; Carlson read an email from Kasarich noting the program reached more than 900 attendees across three park events and highlighted contributions by police, parks staff, communications staff and firefighters who organized activities and volunteer coordination.
These were recognition and informational presentations; no council action was required.
