Council hears updates: $150,000 grant for public housing, repairs after March fire continue

Niesemeyer said the city applied for grant funds and secured $150,000 for public housing needs. She said $50,000 of the award will be leveraged in the Moorhead Public Housing application for new windows and a generator at the Riverview High Rise; the remaining $100,000 will be used to replace the high-rise roof. She also reported ongoing repairs stemming from a March fire at the high rise; replacement of fire- and water-damaged components will take several more months. Niesemeyer said a plumbing project at Sharpview is nearing completion and other housing preservation efforts are underway to support residents described as the "hardest to house."
She also described Solid Waste Advisory Committee (SWAC) and Resource Recovery Committee matters, including an announced Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) violation at the Holly landfill (MPCA to issue a final decision in coming weeks) and steps to add dumpsters at the resource recovery center and landfill to handle demolition waste. Negotiation with Clay County over the resource recovery center services and costs continues, she said.
