Planning commission approves conditional use permit for Avid Corporation expansion at 222 East Baker Street

On July 28, 2025, the Laramie Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for Avid Corporation to add a 5,000-square-foot expansion to its machining and manufacturing facility at 222 East Baker Street and to formally establish a live-work dwelling on the site. The approval carried multiple conditions aimed at bringing the property into code compliance.

The permit matters because the site straddles two zoning districts and staff said both the industrial expansion and the live-work component require conditional use approval under the city’s current code. Planning staff also reported a history of unpermitted work and unmet conditions from an earlier conditional use permit dating to 2016; staff said they had worked with the applicant to resolve building code violations and that the new permit was intended to bring the property into full conformance.

Commissioners approved the application with conditions that include removal of shipping containers from the site, full construction of the parking lot, installation of landscaping, and compliance with screening standards. No public comments were heard during the discussion.

Commission attendance and process details: the meeting convened at 4:30 p.m. with Chair Matamore presiding and Commissioners Moody, Pacino and O’Toole present; City Council liaison Matt Walkhart and planning staff Derek Taney, Todd Feizer and Ryan Schuetzelt were also in attendance. The agenda and the July 14 meeting minutes were approved without changes before commissioners took up the Avid Corporation conditional use permit. The meeting adjourned at 4:56 p.m.
