Council approves naming-rights framework to speed fundraising for community center library

The Moorhead City Council adopted a form naming-rights agreement and a sponsorship guide intended to streamline private fundraising for the new community center and library.
Lisa Bode, presenting to the council, said Mayor Shelley Carlson convened a Mayor—s Circle of community leaders and former mayors to assist private fundraising. Bode said the Mayor—s Circle has about $400,000 in commitments and a development target of roughly $4,000,000 to cover elements not paid by the sales tax. The naming-rights form would allow the city attorney—s reviewed agreement to be executed by the mayor and city manager for donations that meet the minimums listed in the sponsorship brochure without bringing each individual agreement back to council for approval.
Bode said the sponsorship brochure would be updated as commitments arrive and that the city would continue to publicly recognize donors in presentations. Council members praised the fundraising work and thanked Bode, staff and volunteers involved in the Mayor—s Circle.
The council approved the resolution by voice vote; council members said the delegation was intended to streamline administrative steps while preserving public recognition opportunities for larger gifts.
