The Port Washington-Saukville School District board approved a newly created electronic handbook compiling DPI guidance, forms and assessment calendar items for staff who work with students with disabilities.
Brian Sutton, who presented the item, described the resource as an internal, electronic “one-stop shop” for special education teachers and case managers. He said the handbook centralizes links to DPI guidance and shows how those forms work with the district’s IEP software. “Rather than have a guidebook that is a paper copy guidebook that teachers have to find, they can just go here and get the thing that they need,” the presenter said. Sutton added that a few statewide items — including parts of the statewide assessment calendar and other DPI materials — were not yet released and will be added once available.
Board action: A board member moved to approve the DPI policies and procedures handbook for students with disabilities “as presented with updated links as they become available.” A fellow board member seconded; the motion carried by voice vote.
Implementation notes: Board members clarified the handbook is intended for staff use and that certain fields in documents are auto-populated from the district’s OASIS/GoID system; the presenter said Corey Garrick is the family engagement coordinator listed in the handbook and the document may be updated to ensure contact details appear correctly.
No external authority changes were made — the handbook aggregates state guidance and district procedures for staff reference and will be updated when DPI releases additional materials.
