District: Registration steady; new online bus signup, email address to replace phone calls

District leaders said the change to bus registration is intended to cut phone calls and provide clearer route information to families. “Johnson Bus has also worked with us to create an official Port Washington, Saukville School District Johnson Bus email that families can email back and forth rather than relying on phone to contact Johnson Bus,” a district administrator said. The district will send families a superintendent update describing a bus sign-up form and a QR code; families are being asked to sign up by Aug. 16 to guarantee placement for the first day of school on Sept. 2.
Why it matters: Bus routing affects daily attendance, staffing and route planning. The district said the email-and-form approach will allow Johnson Bus to build a parent-facing database and ultimately display routes in Infinite Campus, the district’s student information system.
Officials said the enrollment snapshot is preliminary and that registration remains open through the start of school. The district gave the following enrollment details in its report: all three elementary schools combined were down about 20 students, 4K enrollment was up by 10 students, the middle school was up six students and the high school was down six students, producing a net decrease of about 26 students from last year.
Board members asked whether parents would receive route information by email rather than by phone; district staff replied that was the plan and that the form and the new district-Johnson Bus email should allow Johnson Bus to email route assignments back to families. The superintendent said staff will continue work in the coming weeks to connect bus sign-ups into Infinite Campus so parents can view routes there once the integration is complete.
The board received the update as information; no formal action was taken on transportation at the meeting.
District sources and next steps: The superintendent said a superintendent update will be sent Wednesday with the bus signup form and QR code, families should sign up by Aug. 16 to guarantee a bus for Sept. 2, and the district and Johnson Bus plan to transition routing communications away from phone calls to email and Forms-based signups.
